Still Editing
January 9th, 2007 : by Will MooreI apologize that my blogs have not been as frequent as in the past. While editing everything seems to take a back seat. I go days without checking email, returning phone calls, or talking to my wife (just kidding about the last part). Not sure why that is, possibly because I am so close to being finished with the film that all else fades to black.
The film is at an hour and forty-eight minutes (without credits) right now, which means I still have about 20 minutes to cut out. Once I add about 5-7 minutes of credits the final cut of the film should run around 90-95 minutes. It is going to be hard to cut out the last 20 minutes because I am extremely pleased with the way everything looks - that’s not to say that by cutting 20 minutes out I will be hurting the film, actually by tightening up the cut I will improve the pacing and energy of the film which in turn helps hold the audience’s attention. We’ve all sat through that 2 1/2 to 3 hour movie that was good but probably could have been 30 minutes shorter. That last hour or so all we can think about is how bad we have to go to the bathroom or how bad our butt hurts. My dad used to tell me that no film should be longer than 90 minutes. Now I don’t necessarily agree with his opinion but I will say he wasn’t far from the truth.

I can hardly wait, Will. I’m praying for your mind to stay focused and for your best work to come through ‘Cowboy Smoke.” My co-workers and bosses are elated and desperately waiting for “Premiere Night.” Thank you for having given my family and myself this wonderful learning opportunity.
