Cowboy Smoke comes to life

September 16th, 2006 : by Will Moore

Production began today and I have to say it went off without a hitch. We had a few problems, as to be expected on the first day, but we managed to pull it together and make things happen. First off, one of our lead actors was flying in from New York and his flight was delayed… so he did not arrive to set until twenty minutes before call time. Literally, he was picked up in Houston at 3am, then drove directly to set and arrived around 6am. My hats off to the actor, Matt Johnston, because he had worked on his TV show all day on Friday, jumped on a plane and then worked another 15 hours. Next, our boom operator got heat exhaustion and had to be taken to the hospital - I told you kids it’s hot down here… I mean it’s Africa hot, Tarzan couldn’t stand this heat. Finally we had problems with the camera battery charger. Not good. Once again, I expected a few crises on the first day so I was not too shocked. All you can do is move on and solve the problem. We ended up getting everything shot, and beautifully I might add by Steve Acevedo and his talented camera crew… and only a few hours past the expected wrap time.

    Will,
While you were having all that fun, I was watching the St Joseph Lady Fliers Freshman Vollyball team win a 3rd place at the Memorial Volleyball tournement.

Good luck on the shoot. By the way, once you wrap this project up………..I have a good story to tell you about DEA Agents, A smugglars 23 airplane airforce, a former Candidate for the Governorship of Texas, guns, sex, the mob, and decorated Marine fighter ace that had a female lion guarding his estate in Florida. All true………..you can change the names to protect the innocent.

I’m sorry to hear you had so much trouble on your first day of shooting. I enjoyed working for you and found everything very interesting. I have never been on a movie set before although I have been in that restaurant a few times in my life, but this time was very different. Thanks for making my first day such a great experience. I enjoyed meeting everybody and can’t wait to do it again.

If you guys ever want to escape the heat, come and shoot in Minnesota-we’re already hitting highs of 58 degrees and lows of 35 at night. Somethnig to consider ;)

It is wonderful that everything is coming together and production has started. I love to see pictures so I hope that we will be seeing some production clips. Here in Blacksburg this past Saturday VA Tech University had its fourth football game of the season it was wild and mad here in our little town. This past game was 33 to 0. Sad to say I am not a sports fan but I do keep up with their score. Fall is coming early this year to Virginia we are still having very warm days in the 70’s our nights are dropping into the 40’s.
I know that Cowboy Smoke will score big at the box office despite the Hot temperatures during filming. GO COWBOY SMOKE TEAM!

What are the chances of getting the a copy of the film sent to Foward Operating Base (FOB) Anaconda, Iraq? I hear they have a movie theater and I’m really looking forward to seeing this movie.
Best of luck on the shoot. If I wasn’t leaving so soon I would loved to try out for any part. Sounds like you guys are having too much fun. Awesome script! I love it.

A little bird said you guys still need part filled for filming on the 25th. Shoot me an e-mail or call Cecil Crouch. This will be my last trip to Victoria this weekend before I deploy. Let me know. I’d be thrilled to be on ya’lls team if even for only a day.
