Robert Rodriguez

Something crazy has happened. This past weekend I had my computer out and this man for whom I’ve known a while sees the sticker I have stuck to the top which reads FILM TEXAS. He made a comment to the effect of “oh, you’re into film”, to which I responded, “you know I’m a filmmaker, right?” I went on to tell him about Wesley Cash and how it was picked up by Vanguard Cinema and released earlier this year and so on and so on. To which this man whom I’ve know for, four months responded, “well, you know I used to own a chain of photography stores and one of my employees was Robert Rodriguez.” He went onto to say how he was one of the most influential people in Robert’s life and how they were still very good friends. The, how full of shit is this guy question floating around in my head was immediately answered because I remembered in Rodriguez’s book, Rebel Without A Crew, he mentions that he used to work at a Camera store and that the owner was the man who set him on the path to becoming the filmmaker he is today.
An hour or so later we are still talking and I mention Cowboy Smoke. The second I say something about illegal immigration the man begins to get really excited. I mean he’s so excited that he offers to introduce me to a number of people who will help me get the film made. He says that he can get me the money in a matter of weeks, help me get name cast, get me equipment, even sell it… but here’s the rub: It has to be done NOW. The reason for this, the man says is due to all of the publicity that surrounds the illegal immigration issue at present. He thinks that now is the perfect time for my movie and we have to get it made as soon as possible. That night he began making calls - one of them to Robert Rodriguez. Long story short; in the next few weeks I will be meeting Robert Rodriguez to discuss my project, I will be meeting with two potential investors and hopefully Cowboy Smoke will be set on the fast track.

Wow! That is unbelievable. It’s good to know I won’t have to make that lemonade stand after all. Seriously though, that is amazing and I hope everything works out for you. Good luck!
